
Jazmine Sullivan was born and was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was five, her father was appointed to be Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into the mansion's historical building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as majoring in vocal music. Sullivan started singing as a contralto children's choir, then a few years later in the adult group.
